After studying medicine at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute, he went on give classes in physiology at John Hopkins and Harvard universities.
A former chancellor of Rockefeller University, New York, he is currently General Secretary of the Human Frontier Science Program, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration in the life sciences.
