Holder of degrees in philosophy, piano and composition. He is Director of the Manuel de Falla Archive and, since 2024, Director of the Granada International Music and Dance Festival. In addition to leading the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid from 2011 to 2015, he held a professorship for more than three decades at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice where he taught contemporary music history. Formerly Director of Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the world’s oldest working opera theater, his career includes being Artistic Director of Teatro La Fenice in Venice, General and Artistic Director of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon and Artistic Director of the Mozart Festival in A Coruña.
