AXA-CNIO Professor of Molecular Oncology in the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO).
Discoveror of the first human oncogene, in 1982, his research currently focuses on the use of genetically modified mouse tumor models that faithfully reproduce the natural history of human tumors in order to define molecular targets for therapeutic purposes.
Among a long list of distinctions, he holds the J. Steiner Award (Switzerland), the Ipsen Prize (France), and the C. R. Brupbacher Cancer Prize (Switzerland).
