José Muñiz is a member of the Governing Council of Nebrija University (where he served as chancellor from 2020 to 2025), and a member of the Spanish Academy of Psychology. Holder of a BA and PhD in Psychology, Muñiz began his career at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, teaching there until 1984 when he took up an appointment as Professor of Mathematical Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He has undertaken research in the areas of psychometrics, psychological assessment and mathematical psychology and served as an editorial board member and reviewer for numerous scientific journals, including Psicothema, which he founded then led for over 30 years. A former president of the European Commission on Tests and Testing, the International Test Commission (ITC) and the European Association of Methodology (EAM), within Spain he has also chaired the Advisory Board on Scientific and Technological Research (CAICYT) of the Principality of Asturias and the Spanish Association of Behavioral Science Methodology (AEMCCO). Muñiz is a member of the Academia Europaea.
