Professor of Ecology in the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Zurich, and Director of its Specialized Master on Environmental Sciences.
The work conducted by his research lab combines mathematical models, simulations and data set analyses to address fundamental and applied questions, with a current focus on the structure and dynamics of ecological networks.
Author of a number of landmark papers published in leading journals like Nature and Science, he is a former member of the Board of Reviewing Editors of Science. His distinctions include the European Young Investigator Award, the Ecological Society of America’s George Mercer Award and the Spanish National Research Award in Environmental Sciences. Ranked by Thomson Reuters as one of the most highly cited ecologists.
