BIO

Professor of Informatics at the University of Oxford and Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien).

His research interests lie in algorithms, database theory, artificial intelligence and web data processing, and he is currently working on algorithms and complexity issues related to graphs and hypergraphs, database query languages, and problem decomposition methods with applications in query optimization, game theory and electronic commerce.

Author of over 250 scientific papers, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of Artificial Intelligence Communications and Editor of Communications of the ACM, and is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of the ACM and several other scholarly journals. He holds the Wittgenstein Award of the Austrian National Science Fund, is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Association of Computing Machinery, and a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and the Academia Europaea.
