Fabián Panisello is a composer, conductor and educator. The founder and currently Artistic Director of PluralEnsemble, an instrumental group specializing in 20th and 21st century music, he is also Chair of Composition at the Reina Sofía Music School, where he served as academic director and dean between 1996 and 2019. He trained as a composer with Francisco Kröpfl in Buenos Aires and with Bogusław Schaeffer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Diploma of Excellence, 1993). His works have been performed by artists and ensembles including Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, the Arditti Quartet, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg. Composer in residence at the 2025 Grafenegg Festival (2025), in 2026 he will take up a composition residence at the Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival (China), and a further residence with PluralEnsemble with the Banco de la República in Bogotá (Colombia). His opera Die Judith von Shimoda was among the nominees for best/first world premiere in the 2024 Austrian Music Theatre Prize. Panisello also served for eleven years as director of the BBVA Foundation contemporary music season.
