José García Montalvo is Professor of Economics, ICREA-Academia Fellow and a former Chairman of the Department of Economics and Business at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) (Spain). He is also a Research Professor at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie). Holder of a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, his main research areas are economic development, ethnic diversity, banking and housing finance and the economics of education.
He is also a Barcelona GSE Research Professor, and has served as a consultant for the OECD, the European Union, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, among other organizations. He is the author of 14 books and over one hundred articles in scholarly journals, including the American Economic Review, The Economic Journal, the Review of Economics and Statistics and the Journal of Development Economics.
